Civil Engineering Technologist

Quartek has a need for a Civil Engineering Technologist to assist in developing infrastructure design services and solutions. Quartek Group is a design collaborative composing exceptional solutions through the integration of Architectural, Engineering, Planning and Project Management services. In this role you will be working closely with engineers, planners, architects and technologists on various projects as part of our civil engineering team.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to develop as a civil engineering technologist and will also allow you to work towards developing unique skills in integrated design.


Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or senior designer, and subject to adequate training where applicable:

  • review of existing documentation
  • measurements, observations and documentation of existing building and/or site conditions
  • preparation of designs of simple to moderate complexity
  • calculations as per applicable codes and guidelines
  • preparation of sketches, drawings, reports, letters and other documents relating to grading, drainage and stormwater management, irrigation, sanitary sewerage, water supply/distribution, roadways, site development and related work using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Infrastructure Works and other computer software as appropriate
  • attendance at meetings with other disciplines, email and letter correspondence with other staff, clients, consultants, utilities and/or contractors
  • field review and associated documentation of construction of civil works
  • topographic survey (crew chief or rodman) using total station, GPS, levelling and other appropriate equipment
  • assistance with preparation of proposals aimed at soliciting new work, including preparation of graphics, word processing, printing, collating, binding and delivery
  • involvement in such corporate activities and memberships such as Joint Health and Safety Committee, ‘Green Team’ (sustainable initiative), Greater Niagara Chamber of Commerce, Niagara Construction Associations, etc., subject to interest and mutual agreement between Employee and Employer



  • Post-Secondary Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Canadian experience preferred
  • Membership in OACETT or eligibility for same, subject to meeting experience requirements and passing requisite examinations
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to fulfill work assignments
  • Proficiency with productivity software including MS Word and Excel
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanour
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with other professionals and staff of government agencies
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • LEED accreditation is considered an asset
