ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – BUILDINGS

Quartek Group Inc. is seeking a well organized and self motivated ELECTRICAL ENGINEER to join our growing team in St. Catharines, Ontario. Quartek is a vibrant and growing business delivering engineering, architectural, planning and project management solutions on a variety of residential, commercial, institutional and industrial projects. 

The successful candidate should be familiar with electrical engineering design for a variety of commercial, residential and institutional projects and have complete understanding of electrical engineering requirements for building design. As a member of the Quartek team, this candidate will provide passion for electrical building services design, be able to prioritize and schedule tasks, and manage projects. The role requires the ability to build strong direct rapport with our clients while assuming responsibility for the delivery of accurate, complete, high-quality work. This candidate will report to the Building Engineering Services Manager. 

Initial Responsibilities Will Include: 

  • Preparation of various reports addressing building assessment, schematic design, design development, etc.; 
  • Development of design concepts, ensuring proper application of appropriate design methodologies, codes, industry standards, common practice, etc.; 
  • Liaison with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection and research necessary to gather industry, field and project specific data; 
  • Implementation of design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low voltage systems rough-ins (telecom, intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access, etc.); 
  • Provision of technical and administrative support through all phases of the project; 
  • Ensure design confirms with all necessary applicable codes and be responsible for meeting engineering quality standards; 
  • Respond to technical queries; 
  • Provide construction administration; 
  • Review shop drawings and other submittals; 
  • Attend site meetings, carry out site review, and provide reports; 
  • Prepare Site Instructions, Contemplated Change Notices, Change Orders, etc.; 
  • Review progress billings. 

Subject to Growth and Experience, Further Responsibilities Will Include: 

  • Assistance with proposals and business development; 
  • Leading of design activities; 
  • Mentoring junior design and technical staff on all aspects of the work; 
  • Review of designers’ work including drawings, specifications, reports, code applications, deliverables, etc.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; 
  • 5 to 10+ years of experience in the consulting industry, primarily in the commercial, residential and institutional engineering fields; 
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or eligible for same; 
  • Familiarity with OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other codes applicable to building industry; 
  • Experience in leading technical staff is an asset; 
  • Excellent command of the English language and strong verbal and written communication skills; 
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit MEP; 
  • Proficiency in MS Office productivity software applications; 
  • Ability to work with tight schedules and control project budgets; 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; 
  • Valid driver’s license.
