What is the opportunity?

Quartek Group Inc. is seeking a well organized and self-motivated ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to join our growing team in St. Catharines, Ontario.  This candidate will have a passion for electrical building services design and be able to prioritize and schedule tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.   Quartek Group is a design collaborative composing exceptional solutions through the integration of Engineering, Architectural, and Planning services. In this role you will be working closely with other engineers, planners, architects and technologists on various projects as part of our electrical engineering team.

What will you do?

The successful candidate should be familiar with a variety of commercial and institutional projects and have complete understanding of electrical engineering requirements for building design.

  • Report to Electrical Department Manager.
  • Assist with proposals and business development.
  • Develop specifications, schematic design and detailed design.
  • Conduct building assessments.
  • Lead the design activities and mentor design staff on all aspects of the work.
  • Liaise with architects, clients and contractors.
  • Oversee development of design concepts and ensure proper application and execution.
  • Liaise with manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection.
  • Review designers’ work including drawings, reports, code applications, deliverables, etc.
  • Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field and project specific data.
  • Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to include detailed lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low voltage systems including telecom, security, CCTV, door access systems, etc.
  • Lead and provide technical and administrative support through all phases of the project.
  • Ensure design confirms with all applicable codes and be responsible for meeting engineering quality standards.
  • Respond to technical queries.
  • Provide construction administration.
  • Attend site meetings, review sites and provide reports.
  • Review shop drawings and other submittals.
  • Prepare Site Instructions, Contemplated Change Notices, Change Orders, etc.
  • Review progress billings.

What do you need to succeed?

The role requires the ability to build strong direct rapport with our clients, as well as assume the responsibility of delivering accurate, complete and high-quality work.  To be successful in this, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of experience in the consulting industry primarily in the commercial and institutional engineering fields.
  • License as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or eligibility for same.
  • Familiarity with OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other applicable codes to building industry.
  • Experience in leading electrical designers.
  • Excellent command of the English language and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Ability to work with tight schedules.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
