Junior Civil Engineer / Intern

What is the opportunity?

Quartek is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer or Intern to assist with the development of infrastructure project solutions. Quartek Group is a design collaborative composing exceptional solutions through the integration of Engineering, Architectural, and Planning services. In this role you will be working closely with engineers, planners, architects and technologists on various projects as part of our civil engineering team.

What will you do?

Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) and subject to adequate training where applicable:

  • review existing documentation
  • measure, observe and document existing site conditions and features
  • prepare designs of simple to moderate complexity
  • prepare design calculations, software analysis, sketches, drawings, reports, letters and other documents relating to new and replacement infrastructure including vehicular and pedestrian structures, surface grading and drainage, piping/utilities, sewage and water treatment works, environmental protection works, and other related facilities, applying codes and regulations, and utilizing design aids, modeling software, AutoCAD, Civil 3D / AEC, productivity software, etc.
  • as experience and training permits, carry out studies related to traffic impact, stormwater management, sewage flows, water network analysis, etc.
  • attend meetings with other disciplines, and correspond with other staff, clients, consultants, utilities and/or contractors
  • carry out field review and document construction of civil/municipal works
  • assist with preparation of proposals aimed at soliciting new work, including content writing, preparation of graphics, word processing, printing, collating, binding and delivery
  • carry out miscellaneous clerical and technical tasks to support the preparation and delivery of drawings, reports, etc., including printing, copying, word processing, physical delivery/pickup
  • direct or supervise other technical staff or co-op students.

What do you need to succeed?

The role requires the ability to build strong rapport with other professionals, review agency staff and our clients, as well as assume the responsibility of delivering accurate, complete, high quality work. To be successful in this, you will need:

  • post-secondary degree/diploma in engineering, preferably in Canada
  • experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D / AEC is an asset
  • proficiency with productivity software including MS Word and Excel
  • effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • strong organizational skills
