What’s the opportunity?
The Structural Engineering Technologist is responsible for the efficient preparation of drawings, details and specifications for the structural elements of various buildings and structures, as well as site review and related activities, all under the direction and supervision of a professional structural engineer or a senior designer. Working independently or alongside other engineers, technical staff and professionals of other disciplines, the Structural Engineering Technologist will participate in various aspects of the delivery of structural engineering projects including coordination with other disciplines.
What will you do?
Under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or senior designer, and subject to adequate training where applicable:
- preparation of structural drawings using AutoDesk AEC Collection (Revit)
- assist with the preparation of reports/studies as well as site investigations for studies
- attendance at meetings with other disciplines, email and letter correspondence with other staff, clients, consultants, utilities and/or contractors
- perform inspections and field reviews of construction sites, including working at heights
- be familiar with current relevant technical standards, codes and compliance documents
- keep well organized project files of drawings and other documentation
- miscellaneous clerical and technical tasks to support the preparation and delivery of drawings, reports, etc., including printing, copying, word processing, physical delivery/pickup
- Work requires accuracy and attention to detail.
- Heavy visual and mental concentration and periods of prolonged sitting are required.
- Occasional site visits requiring working at heights.
- Travel, including automobile driving, may be required.
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
- Other related duties, as assigned
What do you need to succeed?
- Post-Secondary Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
- Certification with OACETT or eligibility therefore, subject to meeting experience requirements
- Willingness to travel occasionally to fulfill work assignments.
- Proficiency with productivity software including MS Word and Excel.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deliver high quality work and meet strict deadlines.
