Electrical Engineer Manager

What is the opportunity?

Quartek Group Inc. is seeking a well organized and self-motivated ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to join our growing team in St. Catharines, Ontario and lead our electrical engineering team.  This candidate will have a passion for electrical building services design, and be able to prioritize and schedule tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.  In addition, the successful candidate will have skills in business development and team management.  Quartek Group is a design collaborative composing exceptional solutions through the integration of Engineering, Architectural, and Planning services. In this role, you will be working closely with other engineers, planners, architects and technologists on various projects as part of our electrical engineering team.

What will you do?

The successful candidate should be familiar with a variety of commercial and institutional projects and have complete understanding of electrical engineering requirements for building design. This person will:

  • Manage the electrical engineering team, including assuming responsibility for team scheduling, development, performance and growth.
  • Take a lead role in business development, including developing business contacts, responding to RFPs, client liaison, etc.
  • Liaise with architects, clients and contractors.
  • Represent and advocate for the electrical engineering team at board of director level.
  • Provide peer review on project deliverables and consult on project design issues.
  • Lead development of QA/QC procedures.
  • Direct, supervise and mentor other professional and technical staff.
  • Assist with electrical engineering staff recruitment.
  • Prepare fee proposals aimed at soliciting new work.
  • Lead design activities, mentor design staff and provide technical and administrative support on all aspects of the work.
  • Assume primary responsibility to ensure that team designs conform to applicable codes and appropriate engineering quality standards.
  • Engage in the following design-related activities as appropriate:
    • conduct building assessments.
    • liaise with manufacturers for design support, equipment and component selection.
    • conduct necessary research to gather industry, field and project-specific data.
    • develop schematic designs.
    • oversee the development of design concepts including proper application of design principles.
    • implement design concepts through the preparation and production of drawings to include detailed lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low voltage systems including telecom, security, CCTV, door access systems, etc.
    • develop detailed design drawings and specifications.
    • review designers’ work including drawings, reports, code applications, deliverables, etc.
  • Administer construction including payment certification, construction correspondence and documentation, submittal review, site meeting attendance, site review visits and reports as required

What do you need to succeed?

The role requires the ability to build strong direct rapport with our clients, the responsibility of overseeing the delivery of accurate, complete and high-quality work, and the skills to manage people, budgets and schedules.  To be successful in this, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 15+ years of experience in the consulting industry primarily in the commercial and institutional electrical engineering fields.
  • License as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or eligibility for same.
  • Familiarity with OESC, OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other codes applicable to the building industry.
  • Experience in leading electrical designers.
  • Excellent command of the English language and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit MEP is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Ability to work with tight schedules.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
