I just completed my summer internship with Quartek Group, an incredible multi-disciplinary firm with projects across Ontario and beyond. This was my second summer working with the team at Quartek, and my time there has proven to be invaluable. I completed my undergraduate studies in Architecture, and now I am undertaking my Masters of Architecture.
At Quartek, architects, project managers, and urban planners work alongside structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers in an open and collaborative office space. This integration afforded me the opportunity to learn from my colleagues in different disciplines at every stage of the design process; something I had not experienced in previous work environments. It also expedited the production of drawing sets, allowing technical design issues to be solved immediately, as they arise. Within the architecture department, I was given a chance to explore creatively at the early stages of projects, and technically on projects that were nearing completion. In addition to further developing my skills in AutoCAD and Revit, I was introduced to new software like Lumion and learned how to produce high-quality renderings for client consultation efficiently. Sitting in on client meetings and presenting design concepts allowed me to hone my communication skills and to remain in correspondence with construction managers on site gave me further insight into professional practices.
I am grateful to Quartek Group and all of the people there who welcomed me as one of their own and did all they could to encourage and educate me throughout my time with them. The experience has left me inspired and perhaps more enlightened, and I look forward to maintaining a professional relationship with Quartek Group into the future.
