Grant Sauder retired from his architectural practise well over a decade ago before his passing. During the forty-plus years when providing personalized consulting services in Niagara, the last part of this period was from his office in the City of Thorold, where Grant owned and sensitively repurposed a heritage firehall building. Grant authored numerous commercial, residential and institutional buildings within our region and successfully undertook some challenging renovation projects that have ultimately preserved parts of our local history. The linked obituary captures a few of Grant’s eclectic passions beyond architecture. In all things, he possessed a practical talent for solving problems frugally and seemed well-liked by his clients for this reason. I came to know and respect Grant through our mutual participation with the Niagara Society of Architects, where he’d proudly share some of his project conquests. We will miss his friendly aspect.
