Quartek Group Inc. has been retained by Bethesda Residential Holdings Inc. to provide planning, engineering and architectural design services for a new building to accommodate Bethesda’s Children’s programs. The new 2-storey building has an approximate gross floor area of 27,000 sq. ft. and provides offices, treatment facilities for clients including physiotherapy rooms, and a gymnasium. The exterior and interior finishes were carefully selected to meet the needs of the clients and their families to provide an environment that enhances the care and therapy services offered by Bethesda. The provision of natural lighting and energy efficiency of the building were important considerations in the final building design.
The site design included placing the building closer to the street to create a more urban streetscape and inclusion of a bus lay-by to accommodate transit in an area that has generally had a more campus feel. This project contributes to the urbanization of the area and creating a more pedestrian and transit oriented form of development.
