In anticipation of the 2021 Canada Summer Games, The City of St. Catharines proceeded with major upgrades to the existing public washrooms at Merritton Community Park. The existing facility was constructed in 1980 and therefore non-compliant with current OBC accessibility requirements nor the City’s adopted Facility Accessibility Design Standards. The upgrades addressed this by eliminating the underutilized concession stand and introducing two (2) new universal family washrooms along with FADS compliant concrete walkways and railings. In addition, the space for the public washroom was maximized and subsequently barrier-free as well.
Additional improvements included a new press box and scoreboard, grandstand and dugout improvements and a full building recladded.
