Quartek Group Inc. was originally commissioned to prepare preliminary designs, cost estimates and a feasibility study, examining options for twinning the existing arena which dated back to 1967. The option chosen was for a new NHL ice size arena at right angles to the existing arena.

In August 2002, Quartek was given the go ahead to prepare detailed design drawings and tender documents. Construction started in December 2002 and the arena was ready for use by 21 September 2003 to meet the Town’s ice use committments.

The $4 million project included additional parking areas, seating for 500 spectators, 5 change rooms, a large foyer with viewing area and concessions interconnecting the new and old arenas.

This project, completed on time (within a tight schedule) and within budget, has generated considerable favourable comments for Quartek Group Inc. from the Town staff and arena users.
