Quartek was retained by the City of Thorold to provide sewer rehabilitation and replacement design for ±1600m of sanitary sewer watermain on various streets and 220m of watermain replacement. Specifically, the affected streets were Clara, Beaver, Taylor, Pilkington, Morton, Ontario, and Mary. Sanitary sewers were performing poorly during wet weather events which contributed to basement flooding and downstream Peel Street pumping station inundation. At the design stage, consideration was given to cured-in-place-pipe lining and open trench replacement. The construction tender was structured to economically prioritize either method for each sewer segment. Quartek provided full-time site review and contract administration for the entire construction period.
